Bryan grew up in Corydon, and graduated from Corydon High School and Indiana University, and he
remembers when the only fast food chain restaurant was the Dog ‘N Suds north of town, where
El Nopalito is now. His wife Mary Jo and he retired in Corydon after careers in photojournalism
that took them to more than 15 newspapers in nine states from New York to California.
Bryan first became intrigued with photography as a teenager when he sold pictures of the high school
basketball team winning the Salem sectional to the local newspapers, the Corydon Democrat
and the Corydon Republican. When he retired, he said that he wanted to take pictures in the town in
which he grew up, so Bryan created the website Life in Corydon to share his
photographs. He continues to record life in Corydon, including a 2011 trip to Salem to photograph
the basketball team winning the sectional. The irony does not escape him.
